Bennett and Lilly Comparison Pics
Bennett Luke Barnard
Bennett has arrived!! He weighed 8.8 lbs and 22" long. He looks a lot like Aaron. Carolyn is recovering well. She was fully dilated and pushed for 1.5 hours, but he was stuck behind the pelvic bone and she couldn't push any longer. They performed a C-section and he arrived yesterday evening at 6:14pm. Lilly came to visit mom while she was dilating and decided to play peekaboo with Carolyn. He is doing awesome and we thank you all for the love, support and prayers. Come see him soon!
Blogger isn't allowing me to rearrange the pics so they are out of order a bit...

January 14, 2010
Time does fly....fast. Hard to believe we haven't posted since October. I'm keeping Lilly tonight at home while Carolyn is celebrating a baby shower for Bennett with her close friends in Newnan. We visited the doc today and as of right now, he is 8.2 lbs and with a due date of January 25 (11 days). Carolyn is consistently trying various (safe) ways of beginning labor. Doc will let her go until Feb 1...then the unpopular C-section will happen.
The holidays came and went in a blur. Jesus was gracious and allowed a lot of close family time at home together with just the three of us. Lilly has slowly begun showing her affection by quick hugs, wet kisses and allowing us to read to her (when really tired). Her primary affection is still the Little Einsteins! And her word for everything is still "DOG!!"
My job continues to be a blessing as a sales rep for a medical lab company. The flexibility during this season of a 1 yr old and a pregnant wife is daily evidence of His grace. I am extremely thankful for this as a husband and father.
Jesus continues to remind us of His love and grace in countless ways. We are affirmed over and over again that only Jesus can provide pleasure that deeply satisfies...no matter how hard temporary pleasures often distract us. Lately we have been reading and talking much about Jesus being our punishment and our perfection. We are seeing the benefit in our marriage and family of doctrinal conversations such as these. Also, books by John Piper have been a recent blessing to us. He says this in "Counted Righteous in Christ"...There are thousands of Christian families in the world who never have conversations like this (regarding justification). Not at six or sixteen. I don’t think we have to look far then for the weakness of the church and the fun-oriented superficiality of many youth ministries and the stunning fall-out rate after high school. But how shall parents teach their children if the message they get week in and week out from the pulpit is that doctrine is unimportant? So, yes, I have a family to care for. And therefore I must understand the central doctrines of my faith—understand them so well that they can be translated for all the different ages of my children. As G. K. Chesterton once wrote, “It ought to be the oldest things that are taught to the youngest people.”
We often are individually reading through various books at one time, but we have really enjoyed reading through "Shepherding a Child's Heart" together. By God's soveriegn grace and with the help of others, we will be successful as parents.....staying away from religion or behavior-focused methods and using the Gospel directed at their hearts. This challenge excites and humbles us. Most importantly, it has challenged us personally to test our own motives of obedience to following Jesus.
Lastly, we have been humbled and thoroughly blessed by Jesus leading us to visit and now attend Four Corners Church in Newnan. Never before has the word "likemindness" meant so much to us. Four Corners is a young church plant (part of Acts 29) with a focus on reformed doctrine, expository preaching, discipleship, evangelism and humble worship. Refreshing doesn't even begin to describe it.
Enough for now. Pray for Carolyn and that Bennett arrives naturally before Feb. 1. Love and grace to each of you.

Pulling Up and Trying to Walk!
Lil is growing SO fast... I can't believe how close she is to walking and talking! She tries to tell us what she's thinking, that's for sure! She pulls up on everything ALL the time and just cannot sit still! She is just like her Daddy... always wants to be on the move!! :) She wants to walk holding our fingers and will hold out her little hands and "ask" us to help her! It's the cutest thing ever. We've been playing outside in our baby pool a lot recently and she's only pooped through her swimmy diaper once! (I had an e-coli heart attack!) Enjoy these recent pics! More to come next week when we find out if Baby #2 is a BOY or GIRL!

Birmingham, Birthdays and Puerto Rico!!
July has been so busy for us... I feel like all we've done is travel and try to keep up with Lilly crab-crawling all over the place! We visited my best friend from Tech, Stephanie, in Birmingham earlier in July which was wonderful. We still want to move there one day. Lilly started crawling right around that time... and by crawling I mean scooting around and dragging her right leg, gimp-style. We love it! She totally looks like a little crab and it's precious. She is 9 months now and is pulling up on EVERYTHING! She's completely discontent sitting and playing with her toys for very long. She walks holding onto furniture (or our fingers) like a pro. She's eating everything, too. Still mainly on baby food but thoroughly enjoys whatever we're eating. She makes the cutest, happiest noises when she eats!
We also celebrated Alan and Lucy's birthdays in July! (They turned 20 and 1, respectively!) What great times!
This past weekend we were in Puerto Rico for a few days with Aaron's family to celebrate his cousin Mandy's wedding. It was a great, short trip and we enjoyed our time with Mimi and Granddaddy especially!
And just as a kindof announcement, for those who don't already know... I'm pregnant again!! I am due January 27, 2010 (weird to write that... 2010) and we find out at the end of August if we are having a boy or girl! I'm 15 weeks now. We are so thankful and excited to have another precious baby in the family soon! So please keep this in mind when you are looking at all the pics of me and thinking I look huge!!:)

Happy face :)
She was making this face all morning!
Precious! She is SUCH a Daddy's girl!

This is how she started pulling up... and yes, her mouth is open

4th of July Weekend!
We had a great weekend with Lilly's first 4th of July! Aaron went and bought her a little pool so that we don't always have to be IN the pool with her when we're outside, which is so nice! She was just loving scooting all around in her baby pool! We went and cooked out on Saturday night at the Cartledge's house downtown and got to catch part of the Newnan parade, too! Didn't stay out for the fireworks this year, but definitely think she'll be up for them next year! :)

Home Sweet Home
Despite that fact that we landed in Detroit, where Eminen is idolized, we were still in America. Thank God! After eating at Chilis restaurant, which Carolyn sniffed out in less than 3 minutes, we were back on the plane to Atlanta.
It will probably take a few weeks for us to internalize everything that we were able to see and experience. We can't thank Kev and Fran enough for their generosity and love... and for crawling in the 3rd row of the Expedition every time we left the house! (You too, Clair!)
There are so many amazing pics to post, but I've tried to narrow it down. We were able to visit Hong Kong the weekend before we flew home. It was an amazing experience. The city looks like a Hollywood movie set from a distance, but feels like NYC (kinda) while walking the streets.

Hello Sir and Mam !!
I've never heard so many "sirs" and "mams" before. This place is so cool. We are loving our Phillipino experiences and looking forward to many more. We see God all around us in fresh new ways. I absolutely love all the new plants, trees and animals. The people are extremely serving and kind. There are too many experiences to write out...I will try to write more later. For now, here are some pics to enjoy. (We really need to do a better job of taking more...)
There is a moutain over my left shoulder...beautiful par 4.

Lilly's Dedication
Sunday was Lilly's dedication at church and we were blessed to have so much of my family here for it. They showed a slideshow of pictures and had a voiceover that Aaron recorded of a passage we chose for Lilly, as well as our prayer for her. Here's what it said:
We echo Paul's prayer in Philippians 1:9-11 that "your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God."
Lilly, we pray that you will know God's grace early in your life and choose to live in response to it. That the Lord will give you a discerning spirit and a heart that is sensitive to his presence. That you will love others more than yourself and that the Father will protect you from loving this world. And ultimately that you will enjoy and treasure Christ more than anyone or anything else.
This morning as I was listening to some worship music, I heard Steven Curtis Chapman's song "Yours" again and was so reminded of the fact that everything is the Lord's. Lilly is His! She belongs to Christ and every day I am learning that more and more. I'm such a worrier in my flesh and in dedicating Lilly (which is something we have to do daily, not just once!) to the Lord, I know that I am relinquishing my hold on her. She is His child before she is mine... and what an incredible gift that is!!

February Pics!
Hey guys, sorry to be lazy about putting up pictures but I've been even more lax about taking them! Here are some recent ones... Just a little Lilly update so y'all know what she's been up to recently... She's rolling over now, from her tummy to her back because she so despises tummy time! She talks to us all the time and makes the most precious noises you've ever heard. She's pulling herself up when she lays down and looks like she's trying to do crunches! She's totally outgrowing her clothes constantly. She's in 6-12 month stuff already. She is teething like a maniac and drooling all over the place! She's putting everything in her mouth but her favorite toys are her hands... she eats them all the time! Thank you to Mimi and Granddaddy for the precious Valentine's outfit! She looked adorable in that dress! And thank you Mark, Janna and Lucy for letting us borrow so many clothes!! Hooray for hand-me-downs!! Lilly's dedication is this Sunday at church and we're thrilled about that. Thank you to our family who are going to be there! For everyone else that can't make it, we're video-taping the whole thing so you can catch it later!
Enjoy the pictures! :)

Who was Saint Nick?
Nicholas was born in the third century in Patara, a village in what is now Turkey. He was born into an affluent family, but his parents died tragically when he was quite young. His parents had raised him to be a devout Christian, which led him to spend his great inheritance on helping the poor, especially children. He was known to frequently give gifts to children, sometimes even hanging socks filled with treats and gifts.
Perhaps his most famous act of kindness was helping three sisters. Because their family was too poor to pay for their wedding dowry, three young Christian women were facing a life of prostitution until Nicholas paid their dowry, thereby saving them from a horrible life of sexual slavery.
Nicholas grew to be a well-loved Christian leader and was eventually voted the Bishop of Myra, a port city that the apostle Paul had previously visited (Acts 27:5-6). Nicholas reportedly also traveled to the legendary Council of Nicea, where he helped defend the deity of Jesus Christ in AD 325.
Following his death on December 6, 343, he was canonized as a Saint. The anniversary of his death became the St. Nicholas holiday when gifts were given in his memory. He remained a very popular saint among Catholic and Orthodox Christians, with some 2,000 churches named after him. The holiday in his honor eventually merged with Christmas as they were celebrated within weeks of one another.
Reformation Controversy
During the Reformation, however, Nicholas fell out of favor with Protestants, who did not approve of canonizing certain people as saints and venerating them with holidays. His holiday was not celebrated in any Protestant country except Holland, where his legend as Sinterklass lived on. In Germany, Martin Luther replaced him with the Christ child as the object of holiday celebration, or, in German, Christkindl. Over time, the celebration of the Christ child was simply pronounced Kriss Kingle and oddly became just another name for Santa Claus.
Santa Myths
The legends about Santa Claus are most likely a compilation of other folklore. For example, there was a myth in Nicholas’ day that a demon was entering people's homes to terrorize children and that Nicholas cast it out of a home. This myth may explain why it was eventually believed that he came down people's chimneys.
Also, there was a Siberian myth (near the North Pole) that a holy man, or shaman, entered people's homes through their chimneys to leave them mushrooms as gifts. According to the legend, he would hang them in front of the fire to dry. Reindeer would reportedly eat them and become intoxicated. This may have started the myth that the reindeer could fly, as it was believed that the shaman could also fly. This myth may have merged with the Santa Claus myth and if so, explains him traveling from the North Pole to come down the chimney and leave presents on the mantle over the fireplace before flying away with reindeer.
These stories of Santa Claus were first brought to America by Dutch immigrants. In the early 20th century, stores began having Santa Claus present for children during the Christmas season. Children also began sending letters to the North Pole as the legends surrounding an otherwise simple Christian man grew.
At the Resurgence, we keep the center of Christmas focused on Jesus; it’s probably what Nicholas would have wanted.

December Update!
Hey Everyone! I know, I know, I'm terrible at updating the blog... sorry about that! Things have been pretty crazy around here since Thanksgiving, basically. Just to update everyone, the Friday before Thanksgiving, Mom left to go back to Manila with Dad for good. They are both doing SO great and are just thrilled to finally be together in the same place. She now has a personal trainer 3 times a week, is taking golf and tennis lessons, and follows each of these sessions up with an hour-long massage there at their country club. She has a driver who runs out to get her a Starbucks every morning and brings it back to the house! She's living the life I've always wanted, basically. Dad's job is insanity as usual, but just having Mom there is awesome for him. Clair and Alan are headed over there this weekend for the Christmas holidays and are psyched to get to see Mom and Dad... and be getting the star treatment for 2 weeks! :)
Lilly is growing like a weed! She can't fit into her 3 month clothes that have feet on them because she's so long! I took her to the doctor on the 11th and she weighed 10 pounds 10 ounces! She was having trouble sleeping through the night, but that has improved a lot over the last few nights, thankfully!!! She is still the sweetest, best baby ever. She's never fussy unless she wants something to eat or has a wet diaper... she hates those! She is trying SO hard to smile... mainly at Aaron. She just adores her daddy.
We had my whole family here for Thanksgiving, which was awesome. Mom and Dad had their first Philippino Thanksgiving together, haha! After Christmas, we are going to North Carolina to meet Aaron's family in the mountains which will be so fun! Lilly will get to meet her cousins, Evan and Lauryn for the first time. She's stoked about it! Aaron and I will be married for 2 years on the 16th! Can't believe it... we are truly blessed to have each other!
If I don't update before Christmas, we hope y'all have a very merry one! :)
Here are some pictures from the past few weeks... More to come soon!

Almost 1 Month!
Hey everyone! Lilly is almost a month old already which is crazy! Time has flown by for us. These last few weeks have been so much fun because she is really starting to develop her own precious little personality. She is, honestly, the best baby ever. She's sleeping so well already and is starting to be so much more awake and alert during the day. She loves to just lay in her crib or on the couch and look around! She can totally tell when we're talking to her, too, because she'll look right at us. We are loving watching her grow! Here are some recent pictures from the past week... enjoy! :)
She always makes this face... she thinks she's a pirate
Precious, obivously! (3 weeks old!)

She's not so crazy about Pepper sniffing her....

We hear you!
To all of you who have spoken, commented, called or basically harrassed us about updating our blog, this posting is for you. It is not like we haven't been busy with voting in our new president, Mr. NoBama...or watching the Heels smack Ga Tech around...adjusting to new sleeping schedules...changing diapers....napping....etc!!
Needless to say, we are doing fantastic. Carolyn and Lilly are both incredible. Carolyn is basically 100% and we are back to going out to eat, walking in the neighborhood and enjoying life as usual. She claims she is still huge, but I know it is the hormones that lie to her! What is it with women? They don't want to know how much they weigh during pregnancy, but they check out the scales every 10 minutes immediately after!
Lilly is really unbelievable. Probably the cutest and sweetest baby girl that there has ever been. She is quite the sleeper and we wake her to feed her probably 85% of the time. Carolyn swears she gets her ability to sleep like a bear from her dad. I agree. Sleeping is one of life's greatest pleasures. She currently weighs right at 8 pounds and I know she has lengthened out by a few more inches.
We are settling into our new life and loving it. God is very faithful and overly gracious with the love, joy and peace that surrounds us. His mercies are new every morning and seem to get better and better! I ask Carolyn if we can decorate for Christmas every other day...and I am sure she gets tired of me constantly commenting on the colored trees of Fall. Life is wonderful and I feel that we are soaking it all up. I find it difficult to fully enjoy the moment at times because the anticipation of the future is so great. Enough writing for now....enjoy the pics if you haven't already scrolled down to see them.

Lilly - Sunday afternoon
It is almost 1pm on Sunday afternoon. Time is flying by and we will go home Monday morning! Carolyn and Lilly are doing fantastic. We all had a great night with Lilly only waking up to feed every few hours...actually we had to wake her up most of the time. Carolyn has been up and took a shower this morning. Docs say everything is healing beautifully and that Lilly is such a feminine, sweet, perfect little baby girl. We are thanking God for her constantly. I'm going to attempt to post new pics...hopefully blogger will allow the pics to upload today.

1 More Night...
Hey everyone... It's 10:00 on Thursday night and I'm just sitting here thinking about how insane it is that this is my last night without a kid! 12 hours from now we'll be on our way to the hospital, which is crazy! Today has seemed like such a long day for me... just so looking forward to tomorrow so much. Aaron's parents and grandmother came down tonight for dinner and we all had such a nice time. Clair and Alan came down to spend the night and go to the hospital in the morning, too. I still feel like we have a lot to do and I'm SURE we won't get much sleep tonight! It's just so unbelievable!! We are SO grateful to everyone for your sweet encouragement and prayers. We feel incredibly blessed and overwhelmed. Please pray that we will have a smooth morning, that Lilly comes with no trouble and that I don't get sick on the epidural! (Seen TOO many Baby Stories with women puking on the operating table!) Also please be in prayer for our amazing, awesome Doctor, Heather Turner. I'm sure that if she weren't the one doing the surgery that I would be way more nervous than I am. She's really awesome. SO... we'll be taking the cameras and computers to the hospital to upload things as soon as we can!! Look for updates tomorrow afternoon!! I'm scheduled for a 12:30 surgery time so keep us in your prayers, please! Can't believe only 1 more night!!! Updates coming soon!!!

October update!
Well, we know it's been awhile since we've had any update on here but we do want to catch everyone up on our lives!
As of yesterday, the 15th, I'm on almost total bedrest. I had gone in twice to the doctor last week about constant migranes and when they combined that with my high blood pressure yesterday, the doctor insisted I just rest for this last week. So things have been pretty uneventful, obviously. But only 8 days to go until our little one finally gets here! I am going back to the doctor tomorrow for them to check everything... Lilly's heartbeat was great on Wednesday, by the way! She's happy as a clam in there, taking up all the room, increasing my heart rate and blood pressure, making me anemic, causing my elephant man swelling and giving me constant indigestion! Can't wait for her to be outside the womb!!! :)
Aaron has been amazing this last month. I haven't had it so easy and he has gone out of his way to be there for me. Since I haven't been able to do much these past few weeks, he's been sacrificing his free time to just chill with me and to serve me... when sometimes he'd rather be golfing or some other man thing outside. He's been totally bored and really tried not to act like it! I am so grateful for him...not to mention all the drinks and ice cream cones he's fixed for me while I've been layed up on the couch!
My mom really deserves the world for all she's done for me, too... Have to give her props for being so incredible. She's just done everything for me during this last month. She's cooked for me, driven me to get potato skins from O'Charleys every time I've craved them, cut up the chicken on my plate, I mean everything!!! Plus she's been doing a really amazing teaching on Matthew for WIJ (that you can listen to via podcast at www.walkinginjoy.org) which has been an incredible blessing to me and SO many people! Seriously, her teaching is awesome and I have been learning so much from her. Her servant's heart has been more visible to me during this time than any other in my life. She has challenged me to resemble Christ, like she does, through joyfully serving others. And I'm so thrilled for her because Dad is coming in from Manila next week!! (Speaking of serving others... The man is living on the other side of the world to provide for his family.... And is flying COACH for 24 hours to get home to see his first granddaughter be born!! My parents are amazing, had to brag on them for a minute!)
SO... that's our news! Everyone is just counting the days until our little Lilly finally makes her big debut! Please keep us in your prayers during these last few days. Aaron and I really want to make this weekend special since it's going to be our last one without a kid!!! Our lives are truly blessed and more than anything, Aaron and I long to bring Lilly into a family that treasures him above everything. Please pray that even now He would be calling her name and that she would have a sensitivity toward Him all her life.
Thanks for the love and support!!! Can't wait to put pictures of Lilly up here!! (And new ones of me, after I've lost the whale weight...)

Lilly's Room
We've done a lot of work in Lilly's room...multiple coats of primer, then pink. The bathroom color was lime green and we changed it to yellow and then to green. Added crown molding and purchased the furniture. Unfortunately, the crib and armoire have not arrived yet! (another story).
Thought I would share some pics of progress:
